Essential Travel Tips

  1. Altitude Adaptation Altitude gradually rises from Dali (~2,100m) to Lijiang (~2,400m) and Shangri-La (~3,300m). Drink plenty of water daily, avoid heavy alcohol consumption, and carry portable oxygen cans for highland areas.
  2. Packing Suggestions Bring layered warm clothing, waterproof outerwear, high-SPF sunscreen, sun hats and non-slip walking shoes for terrace trails, canyon hikes and monastery stone paths.
  3. Ethnic Etiquette Ask permission before taking portraits of local Bai, Naxi and Tibetan villagers; keep voices low inside Buddhist monasteries and sacred sites. Do not step on threshold gates of Tibetan homes and temples.
  4. Best Travel Seasons March–May (blooming mountain wildflowers, mild weather); September–November (clear skies, ideal for landscape photography with vivid light).
  5. Service Advantage Dedicated private vehicle and bilingual guide for the whole journey, no crowded shared buses; balanced schedule mixing guided sightseeing and free leisure time for personal exploration.
